Bravely Following Mary in Sorrow

Spread the love

+JMJ

The Lord always touches me in a very special way during the First Saturday Devotion.  As part of this devotion we are required to mediate for 15 minutes on a mystery of the rosary.  I have made it a habit to ask Our Lady which mystery she would like me to focus on.  This time she led me to the Carrying of the Cross.

Carrying the Cross

And as they led Him away, they laid hold of one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country and they laid the cross on him to carry after Jesus.  And there followed Him a great multitude of people, and of women, who bewailed and lamented Him.  But Jesus turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not over Me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.  For behold, the days shall come, wherein they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that have not borne, and the papas that have not given suck.’  Then shall they being to say to the mountains: ‘Fall upon us, and to the hills: cover us.’  For if in the green wood they do these things, what shall be done in the dry?” -Luke 23:26-31

Meditation

As the Holy Mother walked the way of Sorrows, she had no fear.  Even with the enemies prowling about in the crowd instigating the cruel outrages brought against the Divine Lamb.  She bravely follows Him, sharing in His sorrows and pain.  She walks in the safety of His shadow, even as the enemy flings horrible humiliations and lies at her. She gives them no heed, seeing them unworthy of even a slight glance.  Giving the enemy no recognition.  Her strength drawn from the Blood spilt by her beloved Son.  She is the shining light on the way of sorrow, a beacon of hope and love.

And the enemy hates this about her.  Because their way of sorrow leads to despair and destruction.  But hers leads to the joy of the Lord.  They would have souls cast into darkness forever, but our Lady cries tears of cleansing sorrow, which show the merits of the Sorrowful way.  Her tears united to every tear shed by our Lord.  As a reparation for poor sinners.

Each step she takes along the sorrowful way is littered with tears turned to petals.  Red petals, a beautiful trail for me to follow.  Each petal a grace she distributes to poor souls as she sees fit, according to the will of her Divine Son.

This mediation I thought was fitting as the Month of the Most Holy Rosary has begun.  A hopeful trust in our Lady will help us through the hardest times and situations.  The love of God is magnified through her.  Following behind her in sorrow allows her to pave the journey with the grace of the Lord and helps us to be brave in the midst of hardship.  So, walk like our Lady, bravely and heeding none of the lies of the enemy.  Instead draw strength and comfort from the Blood spilt just for you by the Divine Savior.
